Like the other classes too, the mage has received new spells in wrath of the lich king to diversify his arsenal. The mirror images the mage can learn at level 80 are a nice addition, for example. The spell has several effects when cast: First of all, three mirror images of the mage appear who attack the enemies with frost bolts and fire blasts. They also try to sheep enemies. Secondly all threat from the mage is nullified as long as the mirror images are in effect. But be careful: The moment the spell expires all threat is restored.

Another handy new spell is the frostfire bolt that the mage can learn at level 75. Even though the name of the spell may confuse some of the players, the advantage of the spell should become obvious very quickly: In the past, mages have always had their problems against enemies resistant or immune to the element they were using themselves. The frostfire bolt, however, does exactly the damage against which the enemy has no immunities. That way mages no longer need to worry about such immunities.

Additionally, there are numerous other spells from different skill trees available in Wrath of the Lich King: Arcane mages, for example, can fire a really mean spell with "arcane barrage". Fire mages can enchant their enemies with "living bomb" which goes off after 12 seconds or when removed and causes area fire damage. Frost mages can stun frozen enemies for 5 seconds which is quite powerful, especially in pvp.
